South Australian company LaserBond Ltd will receive over $1 million to establish an advanced robotic laser. The laser will be used to produce an novel mineral extraction tool system.

LaserBond is a grass roots family founded business. Since 1992 the firm has been using thermal coating techniques to produce hard-wearing components and products for industries including mining, manufacturing and agriculture.

Innovative manufacturing firms in South Australia and Victoria will receive at total of $31.6 million in the second round of the Australian Government's Next Generation Manufacturing Investment Program.

Together with expected industry contributions, advanced manufacturing capabilities across both states will be boosted with investments totalling $136 million.

The investment program is a key component of the $155 million Growth Fund, which was established in response to the announced closure of the state's car manufacturing plants in 2017.

The total investment in capital projects resulting from the first two rounds of the program is estimated at $283 million.
