Computed defence

April 2019

Australia's $68 million Defence High Performance Computing Centre is on track to be established in South Australia.

According to a government statement, the procurement of a head contractor for the project is in its final stages.

The centre's supercomputing capability will play an important role in the design, development and analysis of modern weapon systems and national security systems, including Australia's future ships and other major defence platforms.

Located at the Edinburgh Defence Precinct in the north of Adelaide it will provide the Defence Science and Technology Group with secure capability for high fidelity modelling and simulation.

In addition to the supercomputer, the centre will include secure visualisation facilities, and dedicated DST secure meeting, training and laboratory facilities.
